Bring back Vehicle registration labels in Queensland or update the system.

The issue

Since the removal of registration labels.. the number of fines being dished out for unregistered vehicles has increased. It is bad enough that Queensland has the highest cost of Registration in Australia. For the price we are paying for our registration, we should get our sticker back. We are solely relying on hopes that Queensland Transport will send us a renewal notice. When their whole system is reliant on computers... can you trust that you will get your renewal? Or better yet.. you don't get a renewal and without the sticker, you didn't know the car registration had lapsed... $282 unregistered vehicle fine PLUS $471 for an uninsured (CTP) Vehicle. If you call Queensland Transport... you get told that the renewal is courtesy notice.. they don't have to give you it. Other states have email renewal notices and text message systems in place... Here in Queensland we get a letter (maybe) in the post. Mail goes missing everyday. It gets sent back for no reason or it ends up few streets away because the mail person was tired that day. I am calling for registration stickers to be returned or a better system to be put in place to help people know when their registration is due. The fines are ridiculously huge! Hypothetically: Your car is in for a service. You get a rental or borrow one from a friend or family. You drive around then suddenly... you get pulled over. The registration lapsed... somehow in Queensland's absolutely perfect system... a car got missed. You don't own the car, you assumed it was registered, you still cop the fine. No warning. Just huge fines. Life is busy enough without having to remember a registration expiration date, let alone someone else's registration date. It is not uncommon for people to own multiple vehicles... remembering each registration date is not easily without the reminder. We want a fair go. Return our registration stickers or improve the way Queensland Transport handles our renewal reminders. We live in an electronic age.. bring in the electronic reminders.
