Anna High School has had many issue concerning rights for people in the LGBTQ+ community and for people of color. This school is racist and homophobic, and this is partially due to the school board. The Anna High school theatre department was preparing to do a staged reading of a play written by senior Tyler “ T “ Lang. But due to a scene showing two gay characters holding hands the school decided to shut down the show. Due to the school in general being racist and homophobic it has caused a few teachers to leave previously.  This was the last straw in many instances of things similar to this happening.  With this petition the students of Anna are hoping to send a message to their school board so that they are no longer uncomfortable with things like this in general.  And it’s not just this school, there are many schools across the country who have to deal with similar issues.  And this is on part of them.  We need to put an end to racist and homophobic schooling and make sure that when a school calls itself inclusive, It will be. 

Update: They have changed their reason for canceling the show and said it’s due to a suicide at the end of the play.  But that doesn’t change the fact that the students still aren’t all equal in the eyes of the school. Don’t back down.
