Animal cruelty protection, for those who's voices aren't understood

Animal cruelty protection, for those who's voices aren't understood

The Issue

Animals across Canada, no, globally, are constantly being kept in inadequate conditions. Small housing, neglect, improper care, diet... the list goes on.

These animals are in these situations for their whole lives, or at least till someone reports it and they are rescued. That's what should happen.

The laws regarding animal welfare in Canada specifically are undefined, and there are always loopholes. When a case is reported, it is never seen as actual cruelty, though it is clear the animal is suffering. It is said "they have shelter, they are ok", or "there's nothing wrong with this situation". This is far from the truth. Animals don't just need necessities.

They need beyond that. They need love, care. Appreciation. Beyond the necessities.

We can change that. We can be the voices people understand. Take it higher up, change the law.

Depending on the animal, there are different needs. My motivatation for making this petition was birds, so in this case I will be outlining bird care.

  1. Shelter

Birds who ahve the ability to fly should be able to fly. Pulling from the RSPCA, the minimum space required is listed as such:

Width: The minimum width of a cage for a pair of birds should be three times their combined wingspan (the wing span being the length from the tip of one wing to the tip of the other wing, when both wings are stretched out).

Length: The minimum length of a cage should permit at least two wing beats (the more the better) between perches, allowing your bird to fly horizontally. Perches should be placed far enough from the ends of the cage to allow the birds to turn around on the perches without scraping their tail feathers against the cage.

Height: The minimum height of a cage should be three times the length from head to tip of tail of the largest bird to be confined in it and should be increased accordingly (Increased accordingly referring to this petition is space for both birds to move freely and not be crammed right beside each other) if more than one pair or more than one species is kept in the cage.

 2. Food

Access to fresh, clean and healthy food 24/7, or as diet states.

3. Water

Access to fresh, clean water 24/7, unless medically stated.

4. Care

The animal should be given appropriate socialization, and time along, if needed. Feathers should not be trimmed, unless requirefd medically. Overall care should tend to all the animals needs, mentally, physically, and emotionally.

Take a stand. Lets define these rules, and give animals what they really need.
