Save the Kirkton of Glenisla Hotel

Save the Kirkton of Glenisla Hotel
The Issue
Before continuing to read, please be aware that this petition is to demonstrate opposition numbers for the likes of newspaper articles, it could be ignored by the council and if you are only going to make one objection, do it on the Angus Council Planning application, doing both would be best, thanks.
Angus Council, please do not approve the application for a change of use of the Kirkton of Glenisla Hotel to provide 4 single family dwelling houses.
The current owner bought a good going business and initially turned its fortunes for the better with a fortnights advanced booking an accepted necessity if you were to enjoy the renowned quality of a chef whose talent was pulling lunch and evening diners from Dundee, an hour’s drive away. Scotland’s drink drive regulations proving no obstacle. This fact was proven by the hotels then financial success.
The Glenisla Hotel sits amid an envious setting of flat ground, beer garden and adjacency to the characterful exterior of the iconic building and its policies. This space makes it well equipped for whatever the new normal, post COVID-19 Hotel and Restaurant visit will require in the future. To lose this opportunity now will take away any hope of having a center to the community back in Glenisla. The extensive additional dining space completed in recent years and now ear marked for dwelling houses provides exactly the area required for the re-instigation of a successful hotel, restaurant, public house, community hub and heart to the Glenisla Community. This establishment, when run adequately, serves not only the local community but services all the rental property guests, fishermen, shooters, hill walkers, cateran trailers, day trippers and village hall attendees as well as providing direct income to staff.
Glenisla will be a poorer place with no hotel at its heart and certainly less of an appeal to 4 potential families considering the purchase of one of the proposed dwellings on the back of a community with a hub that would become only a memory.
The safety net to protect this Angus Glen gem against misadventure is Angus Council’s planning department. Please support the many who have been waiting so long for the revitalisation of this profitable and vital business by signing and more importantly, objecting on the Angus Planning forum:
