Myxomatosis is a severe viral disease of rabbits created to cut down the wild rabbit population.. Domestic rabbits are also susceptible to the disease and deaths in pets are reported every year. It is a dreadful disease that causes immense suffering such as swollen genitals, swollen eyes with severe conjunctivitis leading to blindness, lumps filled with puss which grow on the face and body, even in the mouth where struggling to breath occurs. And a lot more that a lot of people don't understand how nasty and painful this is. This is why euthanasia is usually recommended. It isn't fair that rabbit owners have to lose their family pet(s) due to this awful disease, or at least put the rabbits through severe pain and hard work to get through this disease! We understand that farmers and others believe wild rabbits are pests but if a cure was created then rabbit lovers and owners will have a much higher chance to revive their domestic rabbits to their usual self and be immune to this disease! Please can you help us be heard. Our rabbits aren't just pests to us, they're family! Just like cats and dogs. I am an owner of a myxi rabbit, he is 1 year old called Buddy. I am keeping files on how well he is progressing during this awful time. I can upload pictures and videos of his good days and his bad days. Hopefully people could see just how serious this is to us rabbit lovers. Please could you help us!!
