As “low risk” sports have been approved to start on November 30th in NYS, girls and boys high school basketball has not, deeming it a “high risk” sport. Many states have been and continue to play with appropriate safety protocols and have been successful doing so. Our student athletes deserve the same opportunities as other states have been providing. 
Sports are crucial for our kid’s mental health and social emotional well-being. Our athletes have been on pause for 8+ months now and without a doubt, should be given the chance to reconvene at this time. From Day 1, there has not been any consistency with the rules, regulations, and restrictions put on New Yorkers, and this situation is no exception.
We need to trust in our Superintendents as well as our Athletic Directors to make these types of decisions based on our local/regional data and not on what a government elected official believes it should be. This is not a one size fits all situation and shouldn’t be treated as such.
