Charles Bivona III started this petition to Governor Andrew M. Cuomo and

I would like to help ban the production, and use, of corrugated plastic campaign signs. This archaic way of driving votes has only one outcome, and that is winding up in our landfills and oceans for decades after said elected official has sat for their term.

In today's day and age, where the majority of voter information comes from a paperless source, there is no reason why we can't do better in preserving the earth by outlawing the production and use of these 2'x3' pieces of  disposable plastic.

Along with being detrimental to our environment, they are also an eyesore to passerby's.

Wouldn't it be amazing to see the budget line for these signs from all prior campaigns, and moving forward, have half of the prior years budget allocated for the purchase of these signs to  go into an environmental or educational fund, mandated by the federal government.

With global warming rising at an alarming rate, anyone who would oppose the banning of the production & use of this sort of signage obviously does not have the preservation of our planet on their agenda.

Hundreds of thousands of these signs are printed and disposed of every election season! Please, help me to stop this excessive, wasteful tradition!
