Keeping Gyms Open!
The Issue
Amid this pandemic people's health has been the #1 priority. We have a two front battle against our health, physically and mentally. With the lockdown our regular schedules have been completely flipped upside down and for people with mental health issues this has been quite troublesome. Suicide rates have been above average this year (teens more than adults) and the worst is yet to come. Seasonal Affective Disorder comes during the winter parts of the year. The brain has lower levels of dopamine because of the lower amounts of activity and exposure to sunlight. Exercise increases dopamine levels in the brain, amongst other benefits. Doctor's highly recommend regular exercise to fight SAD, but during the winter there are few places to go... Having gyms remain open during another lockdown provides an outlet for people to get out of the house and produce vital dopamine into the brains.
COVID-19 is more dangerous for people that aren't in good health compared to people who are. Wouldn't it make sense for us to strive for better health? Obviously. How do we do this? Nutrition and exercise. During this stretch of COVID-19 it has been spring and summer, however we are approaching the winter. Exercising outside is becoming more difficult. Where else can we go? A gym! Following CDC guidelines, gyms can be a safe environment along with helping people build their health. We cannot continue to fight COVID by backing down and closing up shop. We need to fight by adapting and overcoming. A gym is one of the few places to go during the winter to continue to improve our health.
