Raise the minimum wage to match the living wage in New York.
The Issue
The inadequate minimum wage in New York City, and New York State, should be a pressing concern for the Governor, and the Mayor. In NY, a single adult needs up to earn $17 per hour, but the highest the State is willing to go is $15. A much more striking difference is the minimum wage, and the living wage, gap for a single parent (with one child). They need to earn $30 per hour, but, by the end of 2018, will have barely half of that. If enough people sign on, we could bring a change to the current laws, and raise the minimum wage, or at the very least, start an important conversation that is long overdue.
