Preserve Johnson Hills Park in its natural state.

Preserve Johnson Hills Park in its natural state.
The Issue
William McNeilan Johnson Hills Park is a beautiful preserve of rolling hills and pristine forest that was acquired by the Anderson Township Park District in 2000. It is one of few parks in the county that hasn't been grossly developed with gray infrastructure and unnecessary amenities.
The ATPD is currently planning on securing funds to "improve" the park. They are seeking to clear out forest to build massive shelters, pavilions, visitor centers, storage facilities, a dog park, paved roads and bike trails, and an artificial reservoir and dock. While some of these features may sound desirable, the reality is that vital primitive wildlife habitats will be destroyed in the process.
The intention of the ATPD is to allow visitors to better enjoy and appreciate nature, but the irony is that the true "nature" of the park is being desecrated for the fulfillment of this agenda. If we want to stop the plans for this "renovation", we must act quickly! If we gather around 1,000 signatures on a petition to present to the ATPD, we will surely have our voices heard, as the current members of the board themselves received no more than 900 votes each in the most recent election.
