My autistic brother is trying to clear his name after using a weapon in self defense. Chad was at a local gas station when he was suddenly jumped by a group of people. Along with him a pregnant woman was also being attacked. He pulled a pocket knife to protect them both, and was arrested by Amsterdam police department while the guy who jumped him walked free. Now our local newspaper the Amsterdam recorder has decided to take a bribe from the Amsterdam police department and post that he had a knife when he was on the ground and they were beating him up. Our lawyer has seen the surveillance tape (which the newspaper can't) showing my brother with his hands in the air asking to be left alone and not wanting problems before being jumped. There is also a cell phone video of bad quality that the newspaper is basing their evidence off of saying while on the ground he has the knife but according to the clear as day surveillance video there is no knife in his hands or anywhere around him. I started this petition to go after the newspaper for defamation. The victim is now being portrayed as the criminal and since the story has come out it feels like his side has not been getting shared. The man that started all of this has been out free and was recently given an appearance ticket for harassment. The Amsterdam police department categorized knowingly and willingly pinching and kicking him in the head as harassment. Help me bring my autistic brothers some justice and peace as he can't even go out in public because the guy is out there looking for him to "finish the job". And help me make the police and newspaper take responsibility for their actions and lack of truth instead of letting them sweep it under the rug
