Assam protests strongly against the Citizenship Amendment Bill

0 have signed. Let’s get to 2,500!

The legislation, which seeks to grant citizenship to Hindus, Sikhs, Christians, Jains, Buddhists and Parsis from Bangladesh, Pakistan and Afghanistan who entered India till December 31, 2014, has been passed in Lok Sabha. The centre's move is for the whole Indian nation but it is the North East that will be most affected. Assam out of all North Eastern states will be the most affected as most of the NE states have been given protection against the bill. While these exemptions have calmed down other areas of Northeast, massive protests are going on in Assam, particularly in the Brahmaputra valley.

It's an established fact that a large number of illegal immigrants, both Muslims and Hindus, entered Assam-and this bill is being seen as an attempt to legalise theillegal Hindu immigrants while Assam already faces the problem of infiltration of the illegal Muslim immigrants . It is not about Hindus or Non-Hindus in Assam , it is about the  lakhs of foreigners  who will be given citizenship outnumbering the people of Assam.

We, fear that if Bangla-speaking illegal immigrants are granted citizenship, these immigrants may outnumber the locals, as it has  already happened in  case of Tripura where Bengali-Hindu immigrants from East Bengal now dominate political power, pushing the original tribals to margins. This is dangerous for Assam and we are next door neighbours to Bangladesh. This Bill will adversely affect the culture, heritage and population structure of the North-East especially Assam. While CAB is being claimed to be unconstitutional and many oppose it, the people of Assam demand for strong measures  to protect the Assamese indigenous people. Provide reservation for the Assamese people in the Government jobs. provide property rights exclusive only to Assamese people like the way centre has provided protection (extention of ILP) to other NE states. We do not want to become secondary citizens in our own state and will never be acceptable to us in future too.

We dont want any stringent steps to be taken to restrict our freedom of speech and expression ( Like the case of J & K)  while we voice our opinion unitedly.Share everything against CAB or give your valuable suggestions to protect the indigenous people of Assam and their rights, to attract the attention of the unbiased international and national media so that our voices reach a larger audience.
