Explain, remove and improve the content of Alice: Otherlands.
The Issue
Alice: Otherlands began a a fantastic and inspired series of animations that well-represented the Alice series. The final product that we, the backers, have been presented with is not to the standards we hoped it would be. We would like to request some serious changes to be made to Otherlands as well as explaination's of how we only ended up receiving two animations - one of which was no where near what was promised.
Firstly, the Kickstarter promised more than two animations. We were promised a series.
Update #16 specifically states:
- Animation Storyboards and Thomas Edison arrive at the 25% funding mark.
- Stop-motion animator Troy Morgan signs on as we reveal Van Gogh's mind and hit the 35% mark.
- Otherlands flies into the mind of Hilda Hewlett as we attain 50% funding altitude.
- At 60% funding we peer into the mind of Oscar Wilde.
- Tons of press coverage lands alongside a drama-inducing glimpse inside the mind of Saint Saens (yes, it was made from manipulated Beksinski art, yes it was offered for sale, then not).
- And lastly, we present the mind of Bram Stoker as the campaign bites and claws towards 75% of funding.
And yet, we are specifically not getting a vast majority of these people. We did not want to be "presented" with these minds, we actually wanted to see them, Mr McGee. All of these bullet-points imply that these minds are actually part of Otherlands and yet we will not be receiving even half of what we paid for. A large chunk of the money went to obtaining the rights, sure, but I highly doubt these two animations cost anything similar to even $5,000 each. Perhaps the stop motion, but certainly not the awful cell-shaded anime we were presented with.
As backers, no, we do not want it. When you presented Goin's animations, you presented his previous work from Alice. The beautiful storybook animation that we were all hoping for. This is what the Alice fandom wanted. We did not ask for the cell-shaded 3D animuuuuuu we were presented with. On the forums of your own website it has been shown for years that no one ever wanted Alice to become anime.
What we specifically are asking from this petition is that:
- You either edit or remove Goin's animation from the series at all. We do not wish to have franchise associated with anime. We are not happy with the outcome.
- Explain in full why we are not receiving half of the animations we were hyped up into believing that we would get.
- Explain where on earth all of the money for Otherlands went. $220,000 does not equal two ten minute animations and two years of waiting.
- Give us the animations we actually wanted.
- Failing being able to improve the animations, let the fans help before our franchise, legacy and love for Alice is butchered.
Thank you Mr. McGee. We appreciate everything you have done for the series, but this is a step in the wrong direction for Alice.
