As a West Virginia resident my whole 30 years of life on this blue marble, I believe we need to no longer bow to AEP! In the last 4 years alone they were granted a total of 15% in rate increases!! Yes you read that right 15%!! They received 5% in 2019, ok thats cool, then last year they received another 5% then not even 2-3 months later received yet ANOTHER 5%! When will the "elected" officials that are "for us" going to stand up for us and say enough is enough! When the W.Va PSC voted yes those last two times did they stop to think of the grandparents and parents or hundreds of others here in W.Va on fixed income!??? NO! They did not! Unfortunately a large percentage of W.Va are elderly on fixed income. It is a very poor excuse of a time we live in when many people have to choose between staying warm or being able to have food and or medication that they may need. The last rate increase that was granted was due to "needing to preform EPA guideline updates to power plants", WHY!? From my understanding coal fired plants are supposed to be done away in 20 years so why take money from your customers to fix something that has a death sentence written all over it! You might be wondering how did I decide to start this, well I will tell you, I literally just got off the AEP pay line to pay my bill. My bill was 300 dollars this month plus the 50 for last months bill I pushed over to this month's so I would have money left at the end of the month for gas or whatever was needed. I do not have central electric heat to heat my house I only have a pellet stove to heat with and Unfortunately tho some days recently have been warm I can not shut it off due to being in the 30s at night! After paying 200 on this month's bill I have 102 dollars left to last me till March 1st! Crazy isn't it? What's crazier is that AEP's Chairman makes alot, this is copied straight from salary.com "As Chairman of the Board and Chief Executive Officer at AMERICAN ELECTRIC POWER CO INC, Nicholas K. Akins made $14,804,822 in total compensation. Of this total $1,521,615 was received as a salary, $3,500,000 was received as a bonus, $0 was received in stock options, $9,615,116 was awarded as stock and $168,091 came from other types of compensation. This information is according to proxy statements filed for the 2020 fiscal year." So I will end it here on this last note, instead of making the already financially stretched residents of West Virginia upgrade plants that even Virginia and Pennsylvania didn't see the point in upkeeping why not ask your CEO to take a pay cut to make up the difference.
