Make Dentists Responsible for Botched Work

The Issue

The dentistry industry has gotten completely out of hand. Botched dental work has become a norm, not an exception. Prices keep going, quality goes down while dentists are protected by layers of law. The biggest issue is poorly done veneers.

Did you know that on average the cost of veneers is $1,500 per tooth? Making a full mouth reconstruction work can cost around $40,000! Insurance does not cover aesthetics work and banks or creditcare do not usually provide patients with the full amount.

According to today.com survey, approximately 91 percent of U.S. adults aged 20–64 had dental problems which make them potential candidates for veneers. The median average salary for workers in the United States in the first three months of 2020 was $49,764 per year based on the information from policyadvice.net. It is clear that it would be hard to afford complex dental work with the average salary mentioned above. Even if you save money and decide to invest into your mouth health, functionality and appearance, it is not guaranteed that your dentist would perform work well. What is more likely is that they would leave you with insanely big, white, and overall not functional teeth that would create a hardship that would prevent you from eating and talking properly.

Most of the time, dentists would refuse to redo the work for free and in some cases would blame the poor choice on patients or the lab that creates the veneers. Judging by many stories from Yelp and Google reviews (just find any cosmetic dentistry and read their 1-star reviews), an enormous amount of patients from various states and age categories suffered from the actions of untrustworthy greedy dentists leaving them with emotional distress, depression, and in a huge debt. Here is a recent example of a dentist leaving his patient with temporary (plastic) teeth and forcing into the new contract in the middle of the proceeder. It happened to Mama June and the story could be found on Page Six website. The link is below. https://pagesix.com/2021/06/11/mama-june-demands-35k-from-dentist-for-allegedly-botching-teeth/#:~:text=Kalili%20allegedly%20removed%20her%20temporary,claim%20she%20never%20agreed%20to

Lawyers and dental organizations would not help these patients. It is very hard to prove negligence because it is technically a cosmetic procedure that unfortunately can't be reviewed by the dental board as well.

Going through a horrible experience myself and finding other people who ended up in a similar situation, I decided to start this petition. I hope this can be brought to the American Dental Associate for attention which hopefully leads to the changes of dental standards and further laws. Patients deserve to receive appropriate cosmetic work which is representative of the amounts paid.
