TL;DR We want the upper-management at American Campus Communities, not the student-workers who have probably zero-say in our housing arrangements, to honor our housing requests in lieu of their logistical failures.

Currently, as many American Campus Communities (ACC) residents at UC Irvine have move-in dates for Sept 13-30th and beyond, we've seen the lack of organization - in the distribution of move-in dates, the distribution of move-in information, and the distribution of roommate assignments.  While there is understanding with staggered move-in dates due to the ongoing pandemic, it is not acceptable to dishonor roommate requests, when these requests have been put in for more than 6 months in the making. 

While "we have all gone through unprecedented circumstances," there is no reason for ACC and Housing at UCI to push the faults of their logistics onto us. There is no reason why roommate assignments are dishonored because of a faulty software application when there have been many instances of roommate matching WITHOUT the use of an application. As student-residents, we have complied with all your requests. We've woken up at 7:00 AM PT to apply for housing on a website that crashes, complied with vaccination mandates, complied with weekly vaccination tests, submitted forms before deadlines for move-in, used the application to make the matching-process smooth, and we expect that ACC / UCI Housing honors our housing requests. For those reading that are not residents of ACC, ACC residents pay 12 months of rent for 10.5 months of living. We have willingly signed this leasing agreement, expecting that at the very least, our wishes for housemates are honored.

Additionally, there are health consequences of dishonoring our roommate requests. Residents who are sensitive to COVID, or simply cannot afford to be sick/hospitalized may have picked specific people on the premises that their housemates adhere to COVID-19 safety protocols. 

This petition was created on September 13th in lieu of the ongoing status of Plaza Verde at UCI on Reddit and other social media platforms.
 
Our goal of this petition is to have ACC at UCI honor all requests and settle the situation with those who have already moved in due to an early move-in date. Honor our roommate requests.
