The Issue

In November 2024, a 12-year-old hockey player was attacked with a racial slur while playing hockey, then after the game witnessed his mother attacked by a coach's wife from the opposing team, attempted to defend his mom, was assaulted by a grown adult male from the same team, then had the same wife and coach attempt to weaponize law enforcement against him. When that didn't work after law enforcement saw all evidence, the coach and his wife successfully weaponized USA Hockey, and the California Amateur Hockey Association (CAHA) took it upon themselves to continue the assault upon a 12 year-old child by suspending him for 1 calendar year with 2 years probation. Based on the current guidelines, he is barred from trying out for the 2025-26 season, forcing him off the ice for two consecutive seasons. This stretches his punishment until he reaches 15 (3 years), a crucial formative period in any young athlete's career - let alone a young human being. It is still unclear and under question how a 12 year-old child student athlete could be effectively banned from the sport he first fell in love with at age 1 while going to LA Kings games with family, based on the accusations of one person and family.

It is important to address the severity of these disciplinary measures and their impacts on the children they are supposed to guide and protect. Currently, under CAHA's rules, this young player remains vulnerable to the organization's discretion and possibly faces continued retaliation.

This is not hockey, this is not fair, but this is CAHA.

We urge USA Hockey as the governing body of ice hockey in the United States, to review and amend their training for coaches, officials and board member affiliates. Fair and age appropriate disciplinary actions that consider all circumstances must be implemented in order to protect all young players.

Stand with us and demand change - first get this Kid back on the ice and give him a proper chance to at least try out and earn a spot on a team for the 2025-26 season, and then tell CAHA and USA Hockey to do better.
