As parents of students at Lindale Middle School in Linthicum Heights, MD, we find the uniform policy requiring each grade level to wear a specific color to be unreasonable and unwarranted. Our children have to deal with the challenges of middle school, and having to wear the same color each day poses additional stress on their daily lives. School uniforms should promote a sense of identity and equality among students, not impinge on their freedom of expression.

According to the National Association of Secondary School Principals, a survey showed that the majority of middle schools in the United States do not require students to wear a specific color uniform, but rather allow a range of acceptable colors (National Association of Secondary School Principals, 2020). We believe that Lindale Middle School should follow this trend and revise its uniform policy. We firmly believe that allowing our children to choose what color uniform they wear does not detract from the educational environment, but rather promotes individuality and self-expression.

We implore the school administrators at Lindale Middle School to reconsider and amend the current uniform policy. Please sign this petition in support of our cause.
