Amend the Oak Ridge Ordinance to Allow Potbelly Pigs

The Issue

We moved to Oak Ridge in 2021 and brought our mini-pig "Dipper" with us. He is truly part of our family. Dipper is chipped, vaccinated, and neutered. He is house trained, so he lives inside and uses a doggy door to come and go. He has his own room, and a fenced yard that he enjoys.

We were recently told to rehome our pet due to an old city ordinance after being told by the city it was ok. We were given 30 days to rehome him, and have since been cited due to non-compliance.

Dipper doesn't receive complaints from my neighbors, and our yard doesn't smell or have a pig pen. Many of my neighbors enjoy seeing him and bring him treats. Dipper is 4 years old, approximately 80 lbs, and the size of short but large dog.

Potbelly pigs are known for being intelligent, clean animals that make excellent pets when properly cared for. They are not aggressive by nature and easily trained. They actually rank 3rd in intelligence just behind apes and dolphins.  Many cities across the United States have updated their ordinances to allow potbelly pigs as pets due to their growing popularity as household companions.

Help us keep Dipper by amending the outdated Oak Ridge City Ordinance prohibiting potbelly pigs within city limits. Sign this petition today!
