Amend the constitution for speech accountability
The Issue
The racial divide in our country is disgusting and sickening. It tears the fibers of unity apart daily, and by the second. We, the rationally, reasonably, and compassionately minded Americans, are sick of witnessing subcultures deteriorating our great nation and eroding the positive and fulfilling possibilities it offers as the greatest nation on earth.
In a society that prides itself on freedom and democracy, it is heartbreaking to see these ideals misused as shields for spreading hatred and violence. This misuse not only undermines our social fabric but also instills fear and instability within communities that should feel safe and respected.
It is time for us to amend the Constitution to acknowledge that while we enjoy freedom of speech, we are not exempt from the consequences of our words and actions, particularly when they destroy the sovereignty, unity, integrity, dignity, and peace of our nation. Words that insidiously promote violence or hatred toward American citizens or groups should be recognized as a federal hate crime. Those guilty should face serious repercussions, including exile, ensuring that those who harbor love and understanding can live in peace.
According to the Southern Poverty Law Center, hate groups in the United States are on the rise, propelling acts of domestic terrorism and hate crimes. Without stringent measures, this intolerable trend will only continue to grow. A constitutional amendment can serve as a powerful deterrent and foster a more cohesive society, safeguarding our future generations from inheriting a fractured nation.
The prevalence of racial and ethnic divides, as illustrated by thousands of reports from the FBI's Uniform Crime Reporting Program, demonstrates the urgent need for reform to deter hate speech through legislative means. We need to solidify our stance against hatred by setting a legal precedent, thus encouraging a cultural shift toward humanity and inclusivity.
