The issue

We formally request that the Federation Council amend the Corowa, Howlong and Mulwala 2024 Flood Study using correct verified data, along with local knowledge to validate said data, and eliminate  the inconsistencies used in the current modelling.

The adverse impacts on and to the community since the adoption of the CHM 2024 Flood Study, include:

  • Significantly increased insurance premiums
  • Reduction in property and land values
  • Cancellation of land and property sales
  • Prior to council being forced to revert to the previous L.E.P, all new building ceased, thereby negatively affecting local trades and suppliers

WHY WE CALL FOR THE CHM FLOOD STUDY TO BE AMENDED

  1. Reliability and Accuracy of the Data Used

Significant inconsistencies have been identified within the datasets and modelling relied upon in the development of the CHM 20245 Flood Study .

Community members have raised credible concerns that portions of there data appear unsupported, inconsistent with historical records, or based on assumptions that do not reflect actual local conditions. These issues undermine confidence in the validity of the study's conclusions.

2.  Insufficient Transparency and Public Access to Information

Without full transparency, the community cannot reasonably assess whether the study is based on sound evidence.

3. Need for Independent Review

Given the concerns raised, it is in the public interest for Council to pause implementation of the Corowa, Howlong and Mulwala 2024 Flood Risk Management Plan and commission an independent, transparent review of all data, modelling and assumptions used in its preparation. Such a review should include meaningful community consultation .

WE THERFORE REQUEST THAT FEDERATION COUNCIL

  • Move and pass a motion to amend the Corowa Howlong and Mulwala 2024 Flood Study and its adoption with particular reference to the data inconsistencies and lack of input from key stakeholders :(MDBA& GMW)
  • Initiate an independent review of the data used in the modelling ensuring full transparency and community involvement

We, the residents of Mulwala and surrounding Federation Council areas submit this petition with the expectation that dewcsions affecting the safety, property and wellbeing of residents must be based on accurate, verifiable, and transparent information.
