I am part of a vibrant community in Mississauga, where fanilies and community members share a common passion for organized sports, whether it’s our children playing baseball,soccer, basketball or or any organized sport. However,  recently there have been restrictions placed by Mississauga’s Noise Control By-law 0360-1979, along with related park and facility permit policies. These regulations currently impede our ability to have music and announcements at organized outdoor recreational and sports activities.

Organized sports are more than just games; they form the backbone of our community's social interactions and development. They foster physical health, teach teamwork, and allow for the celebration of skill and effort. Whether it’s at a baseball, soccer, or football game, music and announcements not only enhance the atmosphere but also serve crucial functions such as marking game progress, safe coordination, and emergency alerts.

The absence of  music and announcements diminishes the experience for players and spectators alike. It limits teams and prevents organizers from creating a lively and engaging environment. By amending the Noise Control By-law to permit music and announcements during standard permitted recreational hours, Mississauga can show its dedication to supporting community spirit and the valuable benefits of sports.

Allowing organized sports to include music and announcements respects the traditions of the games and enhances public enjoyment. Other cities have successfully implemented similar changes without disrupting residents. We can adopt guidelines to ensure sound levels remain reasonable and considerate of nearby areas while still providing an enriching experience.
