As someone who has witnessed the devastating effects of Fetal Alcohol Syndrome (FAS), I felt compelled to take action. Children born with FAS suffer a lifelong impact that can include physical issues, behavioral problems, and learning disabilities. Their lives are affected before they even take their first breath, often due to a lack of knowledge or care from their expectant mothers. Our society cannot stand idle while this happens.

Given the severity of this issue, I propose an amendment to our current legislation regarding the service of alcohol to expectant mothers. It is not about punishment, but rather education and prevention. By limiting the availability of alcohol to pregnant women in public establishments, we can better control the exposure of unborn babies to potential harm. With the legal obligation to refuse service, these establishments could also distribute informative materials about the dangers of alcohol during pregnancy.
