Amend Immigration Laws for Fair Employment in Canada

The Issue

When I was unemployed, it took me over six months to find a basic job. And I learned about a Canadian law that makes it easier for companies to hire immigrants because the government subsidizes a part of their wage. This is supposed to be a helpful policy, but it’s being exploited. Companies are prioritizing hiring immigrants over Canadian citizens because they can pay them less. This isn't fair to Canadians who also need employment opportunities.

Canadian workers deserve a fair chance to be considered for jobs without being undercut by government subsidies that make hiring immigrants more attractive to businesses. Economic opportunities should be distributed in such a way that both immigrants and native citizens can benefit without one group being unfairly disadvantaged.

Our immigration laws need to be amended to close this loophole and ensure businesses are hiring workers based on merit, rather than merely on cost-saving incentives. We must call upon policymakers to revise current laws so they reflect a commitment to fair employment practices that do not favor one group over another solely based on financial incentives.

This change will not only enhance the job market for Canadians, ensuring a more equitable distribution of jobs, but also maintain the integrity of immigration policies that are meant to assist newcomers in a fair and balanced manner.

Join us in urging the government to carefully reconsider these laws and prioritize fair labor practices that benefit all residents in Canada, whether born here or newly arrived. Sign this petition to demand change for a more balanced employment landscape in our country.
