This petition aims to urge the authorities to amend bill HB598 to protect the welfare of animals housed in Texas shelters, specifically the San Antonio Animal Care Services (SAACS). Currently, there are instances where animals are released into the homes of convicted or known animal abusers. In accordance with the Animal Welfare Act, this is a breach of animal rights and their welfare. One such case involves a rescue animal named Love, who, against the wishes of a dedicated rescue organization, was released back into a potentially unsafe environment.

By revising HB598, we aim to enforce stricter regulations that prevent animals from being placed in harmful environments after their stay in shelters. It is crucial for the Texas Humane Legislation Network (THLN) to examine and reassess the current provisions of the Act to ensure the security of these innocent lives in their 2025 meeting. Enacting this change not only means better animal protection standards but a safer, healthier future for our animal companions.
