According to recent studies, the lack of proper amendments has led to a loophole where nearly 30% of individuals released on recognizance instead of bail have found themselves accused of new crimes within months of their release.

While we support the motive of reform and the pursuit of a fair justice system, it is imperative to strike a balance. We must ensure that we protect the rights of the accused while simultaneously safeguarding our communities from repeated victimization. The Safety Act requires comprehensive amendments that will consider input from community leaders, law enforcement, and legal professionals to create a more equitable system that accurately assesses the threat posed by individuals rather than relying solely on monetary bail.

We call upon our city and state policymakers to initiate a review of the Safety Act and implement crucial amendments that will protect families and give true justice to victims.
