As a student currently facing the risk of being debarred due to stringent 65% attendance requirement of this semester, I propose the reconsideration of this rule. With this act there are many resulting personal and academic challenges, the 65% attendance mark poses a significant barrier for many students' educational progress. It is unjust to penalize us when the circumstantial challenges are beyond our control. We ask that the rule be revised to either a 75% attendance requirement or removal of this criterion altogether, which would allow more flexibility and inclusivity. With studies showing the negative effect of rigid attendance policies on students' mental health and academic performance, it is vital to adapt our approach to higher education attendance (Thompson, 2018, Journal of Higher Education Policy). Let's work together to create policies that not only uphold the value of academic integrity but also acknowledge and cater to the diverse needs of all students.
