Bring Ameen Home to His Family — Stand With Ameen Farraj

We, the undersigned members of the community, family, friends, and supporters of Ameen Farraj, are asking that compassion, fairness, and the full circumstances surrounding this tragedy be considered as his case moves forward.

Ameen has been charged with murder following the heartbreaking death of his brother, Abdallah. Our family is grieving an unimaginable loss. We mourn Abdallah, and nothing about supporting Ameen takes away from the pain of losing him.

But there is more to this tragedy than a headline.

According to the account released by Ameen’s defense attorney, Ameen came downstairs after hearing his family screaming and found his mother unconscious after she had been violently assaulted. His sister and cousin were terrified. His mother, who is already battling breast cancer and suffered a brain bleed. 

The defense states that Ameen told his brother to leave and that when his brother instead came toward him, Ameen fired one shot. Ameen then immediately called 911, remained at the scene, and attempted to perform CPR on his brother while also trying to help his injured mother.

Ameen needs his family, and his family needs him.

This family is already carrying tremendous grief. A mother is mourning one son while fighting cancer, and another son is facing the possibility of losing his freedom after what his defense maintains was an attempt to protect his family from an immediate threat.

A criminal charge is an accusation, not a conviction. We are asking that Ameen be treated fairly and that the complete circumstances—not simply the word “murder” in a headline—be considered.

We ask the appropriate authorities to carefully and fully review the circumstances of this case and to give every lawful consideration to allowing Ameen to return home to his family while the legal process continues.
