Amber Alert Reform - In response to the Quawan Charles case

The Issue

In the case of Quawan "Bobby" Charles, an Amber Alert was not issued and his cellphone was not pinged when he was first reported missing. Quawan was then found dead 4 days later in a sugar cane field.

We are calling for an Amber Alert Reform to ensure that this NEVER happens again to another child

RIGHT NOW, the criteria for an Amber Alert to be issued is if:

A child is in danger or if a child is abducted.

In the case of Quawan "Bobby" Charles there was no evidence of either so an amber alert was never sent out

What we are proposing:

If a child is missing and their parents or guardians have exhausted all options in finding their child, then an Amber Alert MUST be issued. And if the child has a cellphone or any other device that can track their whereabouts, that device MUST be pinged immediately

Pinging a child's cellphone, if they have one, should not be an option anymore

We believe that if this system was in place, then Quawan would still be here with us.

Let's make sure that this doesn't happen to another child

ALSO:

Once an Amber Alert is issued, an alert goes out to cellphones, televisions, radio, and the media.

We would like to propose a bill where social media alerts are sent to everyone living in the area where the child has gone missing. That way the alert can get out to people on a larger scale.

Please take the time to sign and share this petition.

And please contact your local representatives to let them know that you would like them to work with JUSTICE PROJECT to get this bill passed.
