We can order almost everything online now, with Amazon being a giant warehouse for products that range for everyone's needs. Whether it is a new video game, toilet paper, or a dress, your item is just one click away from arriving on your doorstep in the near future. Naturally, people enjoy the convenience that this brings as Amazon is the largest company by retail value, delivering almost 3 billion packages a year. And during the COVID-19 pandemic, Amazon has only grown as millions of people from around the globe are ordering new products daily. Many of these items are packed in unnecessary packaging such as bubble wrap, wire ties, and boxes that are larger than needed. This issue can be helped by minimizing the amount of packaging used and transferring to eco-friendly package options. Amazon had a service in the past where you could email them and request reduced packaging, but they stopped accepting these requests in June of 2019. Also, they do have a "frustration free" packaging program, but this is only available for around 6% of the products that they offer. It is important for Amazon to switch to eco friendly packaging and reduce the waste that they produce as they are a very prominent business and can set the example for other retailers.
