Amazon Prime Members Shouldn’t Need to Pay for “No Ads”

Amazon Prime Members Shouldn’t Need to Pay for “No Ads”
The Issue
Earlier this year Amazon informed its users of Amazon Prime and Prime Video that they will be integrating ads to their programming. Their justification for this change was so they “can continue to bring quality content to its users.” To go add free, users need to pay an additional $3 a month.
Consumers easily see through this as Amazon is one of the most profitable companies on planet earth. In 2023 Amazon made $2.3 Billion in net revenue. Are they really hurting for its users’ $3 to bring content? Their content has gradually improved over the years, particularly with “The Boys” and “Reacher” but with the already $139 a year to be a Prime member, to go add free turns it to $175 a year. This trend of having adds in streaming services isn’t new, but it has grown to outrageous levels these past couple years.
Amazon is a massive company with deep pockets. $3 in the grand scheme isn’t a lot, and that price is meant to make people who complain about it come off as petty. But it isn’t. Amazon needs to know what they’re doing to its users who (already) pay a premium that this isn’t acceptable.
If you agree that Amazon should reverse this initiative, please join in signing this petition. Even if you feel it may fall on deaf ears, they need to be made aware.
