The goal of this petition is quite simple:

To pressure amazon to discontinue using plastic packaging, and commit itself to using recyclable paper and/or cardboard to ship its items. 

Amazon ships billions packages every year. They are either packaged in plastic pouches, or boxes padded with tons of plastic air bubbles. These plastic products are almost impossible to recycle, even if they have the little "recycle" logo printed on them. The vast majority of recycling facilities in the United States (and the rest of the world) cannot process soft plastics like those. 

But there is a solution: switching to 100% paper and/or cardboard packaging and padding materials. Paper products are much easier to recycle than plastic. In fact, amazon does have this type of alternative paper packaging available...but only for those who ask for eco-friendly packaging. This eco-friendly packaging is not advertised or promoted on amazon, so the vast majority of amazon customers never know they can make such a request. 

We demand that amazon take responsibility for its profound impact on the environment by implementing the following changes:

1. That amazon commit itself to using paper and/or cardboard as the default packaging material for its orders.

2. That amazon eliminate plastic air bubble padding in its boxes, and opt instead for eco-friendly post-consumer recycled paper padding material instead.

3. That amazon commit itself to training its staff on how to more effectively package orders with the least amount of materials possible. From smaller-sized boxes to less padding for items that are not fragile, this training will help save a lot of natural resources.
