Amazon's ruling and changes constantly being made.
Amazon's ruling and changes constantly being made.
The Issue
Working as an amazon delivery driver for the last 4 years have brought to my attention how often the campany changes rules, some of these you are made aware of and others you find out when a complaint has been raised. There's is also no structured time to when these are added to our list of everyday work. We had a previous rule which was 3 strikes for age verified deliveries and dismissal, these rules were recently changed to which I have no recollection of being notified of these changes to 1 strike and out! This means that for any type of complaint with regards to age verified deliveries would leave the driver jobless, this is a ridiculous rule leaving the driver without anyway of fighting thier corner, this could simply be made up by the customer, as amazon believes the customer is always right, what if you delivered to a person who doesn't like you for any reason be it size, weight, the way you look, or ethnic nationality it could even be somthink miss heard at the door or if you have walked into there property over the grass or in a manor to which they did not like, they could make a complaint (even if its a lie) about the way you have made that delivery and have you dismissed.
During the last 4 years of service I had never received a concession or complaint for the delivery of an AVD (age verified) delivery until amazon received an escalation on the 30th October 2020, instead of amazon accepting this was my first offense and that it may even be a customer that doesn't particularly like the delivery drive (me) they informed the company I work for to instantly dismiss me (off board) I am currently suspended, not receiving any money as we are self employed and I am suspended without pay, this could happen to any driver in any company working for amazon, as another driver I have spoke to quoted "we deliver thousands of parcels every week but to amazon we are only as good as our last delivery" if we change the way amazons ruling is implemented to fixed times and for them to give all drivers leaflets or even updated hand books then we would be well informed on what is being changed but to operate a 1 strike and dismissal system is a joke for a company as big as amazon, if we stick together we can change things and show amazon that we aren't just numbers but real people with real lives who rely on the work they do and after working through the toughest times the world is encountering you would expect to be treated with respect and not just somethink in a machine that is easy to replace when defective.
