Provide funding to retain Nicola Morris and SINNG at Cornwall College Newquay
The Issue
Since October 2010, the Student Invasive Non-Native Group (SINNG) based at Cornwall College Newquay has been creating action & awareness on the impacts of invasive and non-native species of plants and animals. Nicola has successfully spread this important message throughout Cornwall and beyond through her work with locals schools and colleges, and at national and international conferences. Countless Cornwall College students have also benefited from Nicola's help and expertise through guest lectures, workshops, field trips and work experience opportunities. Nicola and SINNG have become an integral part of the work being conducted at Cornwall College Newquay and have helped to raise the profile of the College, its staff and most importantly its students.
From July 2015, all funding for SINNG will cease, meaning that Nicola and the SINNG project will no longer be involved with the College. This would be a massive loss to all concerned. The issues surrounding invasive and non-native species are incredibly important on every ecological scale, and therefore we implore the management of Cornwall College to make funding available to retain this valuable member of staff and the SINNG project.
