Require mandatory CPR training for all teachers in every Public and Charter school!

The Issue

My daughter attends Kipp DC which is a really great school. So when she came home earlier this week to say she had choked on a popcorn during lunch time and was told to go drink some water I was shocked. My daughter said her teacher showed concern,  but that wasn't enough. I wanted to know if the teachers where certified in CPR? I went to the school the next day as any concerned parent should do. I spoke with the assistant principal only to find out some teachers might be certified in CPR, but it isn't a requirement. In addition, her CPR license is expired by a few years, she told me. I asked her this very important and valid question, "don't you think if teachers are responsible for children shouldn't they be certified in CPR in case it is needed"? She agreed, it should be. She said she would look into getting some teachers certified. I raised another question. What if those teachers are absent then what? I think all teachers should be trained in CPR. We send our children to school to be taken care of and kept safe while they are in the care of the school. My daughter is okay now, but it could've been worse. Help me by signing this petition to send a message to this school and other schools that when our children are in school or eating in the cafeteria and possibly choke, we expect staff to know what to do. All teachers, staff including cafeteria staff, music teacher, PE teacher etc who directly have anything to do with our children should be required to have CPR training. Being proactive is the reason for this petion.
