Removal/Shutting down of The Smiler

Removal/Shutting down of The Smiler

The Issue

16 people were injured in a crash on The Smiler roller-coaster.

Two men aged 27 and 18 and two females aged 19 and 17 suffered serious leg injuries in the crash. One of the victims has allegedly lost a leg.

The other 12 occupants – six men and six women – required medical treatment, including a man in his 20s who suffered neck and abdominal injuries.
After all the crash's, faults and people almost dying it is time for them to remove The Smiler.

Being the worlds first 14 loop roller-coaster does not excuse the fact this is a genuine health and safety hazard.

Action needs to be taken, staff of the park had been informed about a cart on the track not moving and ignored people telling them it was not safe and instead carried out rides as normal.
When does corporate profit out weigh the value and safety of peoples lives for a cheap thrill and bragging rites.

This ride has suffered nothing but break downs and parts falling off it since the very beginning with clear evidence that the staff have no regard for safety or how this ride works.

Here's just some of the problems it has had in the past:

  • The Smiler was shut for four days in July 2013 after a piece fell off the track, and 48 people had to be rescued.
  • It closed again for five days in August the same year due to a “technical issue”.
  • In November 2013, it was closed after guide wheels fell off and hit four people in the front carriage.
  • And there were more problems in March 2014 when 100 passengers were stranded around 22M up in the air when the ride got stuck again.

Please do the right thing and lets make our voice heard so that no one else has to suffer due to this mess of a ride.

This will be updated as more information becomes available
