Enjoying our deck with Joey!

our backyard and the fencing we would like to install-please click

Hello, we have lived in Stone Hall since 2015. We have 4 children: two semi-adult children  and 2 still at home. Joey is 3, special needs, and medically fragile. He has a trach and ventilator, and requires 24/7 home health nursing (you may have seen us walking around the neighborhood with our nursing entourage!)  Chandler who is almost 2 also resides with us at home. Since Joey is a special needs child, it can be difficult to travel to simple places like the grocery store, or other local fun activities so we have invested into the aesthetics of our back yard, since it's easier for us to make it to our backyard than to just pack up the car and go. We recently built a beautiful deck with a hot tub, seating area, and fire place, so that  we could spend more time outdoors to take the place of regular family outings.

To complete the look of our backyard, we wanted to fence in our backyard for more privacy, as no one wants to see my husband in his speedo in the hot tub and Chandler needs a place to run around.

Our HOA rules only allows for wooden or metal fencing.  Keep in mind these rules were written 10-15 years ago. At this time, there were not many options for nice fencing that deviated much from wood or iron. As you can imagine, there is no privacy from aluminum fencing. Wood rots  and requires costly frequent maintenance. In fact, if wood is not maintained, it is actually quite the eyesore to a neighborhood. It requires pressure washing and staining every 3 to 5 years, which can easily cost a few thousand dollars each time. IF you don't spend the money to maintenance your fence, the HOA WILL fine you.  I have no desire to spend the time and effort on a wooden privacy fence, when there are other materials that are available, such as vinyl.

Vinyl looks like wood and for some of the materials has a lifetime guarantee for fading and repair.  I believe it's time to move into the 21st century and embrace other materials that have evolved and developed that offer aesthetically pleasing materials, along with lower maintenance. If you had the opportunity to install a fence in your backyard that appeared like wood, felt like wood (it has wood graining inscribed in the material), and does not require the maintenance of wood, the obvious choice would be to install a fence that gives the best of both worlds, without the headache, pain, and cost of maintaining the wood. Wood rots. Vinyl Fencing does not.

My family is requesting your signature to allow us to install our fence in our backyard. Your family will most likely never see our proposed fence since it's in our backyard, but most importantly, you will never see my husband walking around in his speedo. Believe me, it's for your benefit to sign this petition.  And for those of you who are adamant about wooden fences, I have no desire to spend $3,000-5,000 every 3 years to maintain a wooden fence, when there are more economical options that actually offer similar results with almost no maintenance. I have a special needs son. That is where I would like to divert my funds, if we are being truly transparent. A maintenance free vinyl fence that looks like wood that  requires very little maintenance, is the correct choice for our family, and would allow our family and other families in our neighborhood to have a beautiful and economical option for privacy fending. I am adding a photo of a similar fence of what we would like to install in our backyard.

In order for our HOA to even consider accommodating our needs, they are requesting signatures from a large number of our neighbors to even be heard, which this is where I need your help as a neighbor. I would love your signature and for you to pass on to any other neighbors for signature. Allegedly, it takes an act of congress for change to occur with our HOA rules, and I am willing to make this effort. Please consider my plight in case you should ever want a fence in the future and can't get one. I am requesting your signature to help us amend the HOA rules to allow viny fencing that has the appearance of wood. Thank you in advance for your help and consideration.
