In response to the horrific shooting in Colorado Springs, club Q,  BCLA is asking for change.

Unless and until those in power and influence demonstrate their commitment to our community, by dedicating resources to those in our LGBTQ+ community who are most in need, forces of hate will continue to see us as an easy target. 

Therefore, in addition to calling upon those in power to condemn this horrific act of violence, we also require that our needs are taken seriously.

• We need safe spaces in our community
• We need a baseline of the quality of care for what is expected of those providing services for the LGBTQ+ community.  This will ensure that people doing the work are not competing with an agency that has only a rainbow flag in its window and no intention of providing adequate services to the LGBTQ+ community.
• We need adequate funding allocated to those agencies working with the LGBTQ+ community so those agencies can survive.  
• We need funding to go along with the rainbow curriculum and ensure that all schools are implementing it in their classrooms properly 
• We need case managers dedicated to navigating the healthcare system for the LGBTQ+ populations
• We need a system in place to support the transgender community across the board
• We need a system in place to work with the LGBTQ+ police liaisons
• We need more addiction services targeted toward the LGBTQ+ community for substances like crystal meth
