Allow Women to Compete in the Olympic Nordic Combined (Ski Jumping and Skate Skiing)

Allow Women to Compete in the Olympic Nordic Combined (Ski Jumping and Skate Skiing)
The Issue
I am a young woman with dreams of competing in Nordic Combined at the Olympics. My passion and dedication have always been towards ski jumping, a discipline within the Nordic Combined sport. However, my aspirations are being thwarted by an unjust rule by the IOC that prevents women from participating in this event. Nordic Combined joins ski jumping and skate skiing requiring athletes to be both strong and have great endurance.
The IOC's mission statement includes promoting "women in sport at all levels and structures with a view to implementing the principle of equality of men and women" (Olympic Charter). Yet their actions do not align with these words when it comes to Nordic Combined events.
Despite significant strides in gender equality across various sports, it is disheartening to see that discrimination still exists within the realm of Olympic competitions. The International Olympic Committee (IOC) has opted not to include women's Nordic Combined in its program for the next Winter Games in 2026.
This exclusion not only limits opportunities for female athletes like myself but also sends a discouraging message about gender equality in sports. According to a 2018 study by Cambridge University Press, there is no scientific basis for excluding women from any winter sport based on physical differences or performance capabilities (Cambridge University Press, 2018).
We urge the IOC to reconsider their stance on this matter and allow female athletes equal opportunities across all disciplines - including ski jumping - as part of their commitment towards fostering gender equality within sports.
Please sign this petition if you believe that every athlete should have an equal opportunity to compete at the highest level regardless of their gender. Your support can help bring about change and ensure that future generations do not face such discriminatory barriers. Out goal is to have women's Nordic Combined in the 2030 Olympics.
