The Issue

I recently experienced damage to my garage door due to a storm, and now face the need for a replacement. During this process, I realized the benefits a garage door with windows and varied patterns could bring; not just for me, but for all fellow Fox Point Neighborhood homeowners.

The addition of glass in garage doors allows for much-needed natural light in the garage, which can also lower electricity usage during the day. Furthermore, an array of garage door patterns and colors adds aesthetic value and curb appeal to our homes. According to studies, such improvements can actually lead to an increase in home values (National Association of Realtors, 2019). Despite these potential benefits, our NEW Homeowners Association (HOA) Board has blocked these modifications.

There exists HOA declarations or restrictions that block different garage door colors or glass. There is also no evidence or studies to show that variant garage doors negatively impact property values. In the absence of such concrete data, keeping limitations on homeowners' choices seems arbitrary and restrictive. For homeowners like myself, who urgently need to replace their garage doors and close out insurance claims, having these options would be helpful and progressive.

Therefore, I earnestly request all Fox Point Neighborhood residents to join me in petitioning the HOA to revise their decision.

Let's promote the allowance of various garage door colors, patterns, and the inclusion of glass. Every voice counts. Please sign this petition and together we can facilitate this necessary change in our community.
