Allow the MTA to take over Long Island buses

Allow the MTA to take over Long Island buses
The Issue
Allowing the Metropolitan Transportation Authority to take over all Long Island busses, including the Nassau Inter-County Express bus, Suffolk County Transit, Huntington Area Rapid Transit, and other private bus companies that operate on Long Island, will allow for daily commuters to travel more freely and easier under the MTA. This can allow straphangers to reach point A to point B much more reliably.
This can affect the people greatly in so many ways. An example of this, is being that most, if not all of Long Island's busses are private companies. With the MTA being a public company, it would make more sense for a public company to run a public transportation system in a community with more than 8 and a half million people. This change would allow for more frequent and more reliable bus service. About 80,000 people ride the NICE bus in Nassau County, and around 16,000 riders on the Suffolk County Transit bus daily. With the MTA taking these 2 major companies over, and plenty other smaller operators in Long Island, the increased frequency of busses can allow for more ridership, not only benefiting commuters, but also drivers, as that means less car traffic on the road. This can also allow for easier transfers between the Long Island Rail Road, and the MTA: NYCT busses in New York City. This can also allow for travel in-between the two counties without having to switch companies, and have to adapt to a whole new timetable.
The MTA Long Island Bus was shut down in November of 2011, and taken over by the NICE bus in Nassau County. The reimplementation of this, and all other operators on Long Island should have been done a long time ago. It is a matter of time before the county's may cut funding on a scale for these transit authorities, resulting in even less service, as if the service as of now is not bad enough. The MTA must buy out or take over all the companies on Long Island and take over service as soon as possible in order to benefit not only the people who ride the bus, but the people who drive, and the planet, since this leads to more people using public transportation, and the MTA uses mostly hybrid electric busses, resulting in a less carbon footprint.
