Allow Tennessee High School Military Graduates to Wear Their Military Cords at Graduation

Allow Tennessee High School Military Graduates to Wear Their Military Cords at Graduation
The Issue
Last year, a student who had sworn into the military was told, while in line at graduation, that he had to remove his military cord as it was not part of the graduation uniform. This incident occurred at Tennessee High School in Bristol, TN - the only high school in the area that does not allow this honor. To prevent such an unfortunate event from happening again and to pay due respect to our young servicemen and servicewomen, we are calling for a change.
We have formally requested the school board to allow this year's graduates and those of future years who have sworn into the military, to wear their cords proudly at their graduation ceremony. Our local and state representatives agree with us on this matter - they too see it as a grave injustice done unto these students.
According to statistics from The National Center for Education Statistics (NCES), approximately 3.6 million students are expected to graduate from high school in 2023-24 academic year alone across America. A significant portion of these graduates will be entering various branches of our armed forces. These young men and women deserve recognition for their commitment towards serving our nation right from their graduation day itself.
Let's stand together against this unfair policy and show support for our future soldiers, airmen, and Marines by allowing them the honor they rightly deserve - wearing their military cords during graduation ceremonies at Tennessee High School.
