The Issue

My entire family has proudly served in the military, dedicating their lives to protecting our freedom and country. However, despite my intense desire to follow in their footsteps, I am currently unable to do so solely due to the tattoos on my face, hands, and neck. These tattoos were mistakes of my past, and they should not define my potential to serve and protect my homeland.

Tattoos are increasingly becoming a normal aspect of personal expression worldwide, with statistics showing that nearly 40% of millennials have at least one tattoo. Moreover, many professional settings have begun to relax their policies regarding visible tattoos, recognizing that ink does not affect one's skills or dedication.

The military is in constant need of dedicated individuals who are willing to put themselves on the line for their country. By restricting enlistment based on visible tattoos, we are potentially missing out on many capable and willing individuals who have the heart and courage to serve.

Countries like Australia and New Zealand have already modernized their tattoo policies, allowing individuals with visible tattoos to serve without discrimination. It's time for us to follow their lead and allow qualified individuals, regardless of their body art, to be considered for enlistment.

This change will not only widen the pool of potential recruits but will also send a powerful message about judging individuals by their capabilities and dedication rather than their appearance. Such a policy shift will help harness the true potential of individuals eager to serve and protect.

Join me in urging military recruitment authorities to reassess their tattoo policies and give anyone, regardless of their tattoos, the opportunity to honor their country through military service. Please sign this petition to help me, and countless others like me, actualize our dreams of joining the armed forces and making a positive impact.
