Allow task bar movement in Windows 11 without third party tools
The Issue
I am an AuDHDer, and change can be both distressing and distracting for me. Recently, I was forced to switch to Windows 11 at work. Since making the switch, I've noticed a significant drop in my productivity, all because of the task bar being fixed at the bottom of the screen. In previous versions of Windows, I had the flexibility to move the task bar to the side. This simple customization allowed me to optimize my workspace, having all my tools and icons exactly where I needed them for peak efficiency. Now, my daily workflow is disrupted, and it feels like my working world has been turned upside down.
For those of us with unique neurodivergent needs, having the ability to customize our workspace isn't just a preference—it's a necessity. The inability to reposition the task bar in Windows 11 without resorting to third-party software highlights a gap in Microsoft's inclusive design approach. Many users like myself rely on personalized setups to maintain focus and functionality. This issue not only affects neurodivergent individuals, but also countless other users who have grown comfortable with prior setups that support their daily operations seamlessly.
Moreover, third-party solutions, while available, are not always reliable or secure, and users should not have to compromise their system's integrity just to regain basic functionality. Microsoft's mission is to empower every person and every organization on the planet to achieve more, and offering flexible task bar positioning aligns with that mission.
I urge Microsoft to listen to its users and develop a native solution that allows the task bar to be repositioned in Windows 11 without the need for third-party applications. This improvement would not only enhance user experience but also demonstrate Microsoft's commitment to accessibility and user satisfaction.
Please sign this petition to make our voices heard and encourage Microsoft to take action to better support the diverse spectrum of its user base.
