Allow Super Priority Service for 20-year private life visa applications
The Issue
The Home Office currently limits visa applicants applying on the private life route, specifically those who have resided in the UK continuously for 20 years, to use only the Standard Service for visa processing. This policy results in applicants waiting more than 12 months to receive a decision on their applications. Such an extended waiting period significantly impacts their ability to plan their lives, secure employment, education, and integrate fully into their communities.
The Super Priority Service, which provides a decision within one working day of biometric enrollment, is available for many other routes. It offers a much-needed expedited process that alleviates the financial and emotional burden on applicants. However, those on the 20-year private life route are currently excluded, putting them at an unnecessary disadvantage despite their long-term commitment to the UK.
Allowing these individuals to access the Super Priority Service would not only be fair, recognising their two decades of continuous residence, but also address the backlog and strain on the Standard Service. This change would enhance integration, economic participation, and contribute positively to community cohesion, aligning with the UK’s values of fairness and inclusivity.
We urge the Home Office to extend the Super Priority Service option to applicants under the 20-year private life route and provide them with a timely decision-making process. This adjustment is essential for ensuring these individuals are treated with the respect and urgency their situation demands.
