Allow Students to Use Their Phones During Focus Periods in Indiana Schools

Allow Students to Use Their Phones During Focus Periods in Indiana Schools
The Issue
As a student in Indiana, I have personally experienced the calming and quieting effect that having my phone out during focus periods can have. It's not just about texting or social media - it's about being able to access resources, listen to music that helps us concentrate, or simply having a moment of distraction when needed.
Research supports this personal experience. A study from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln found that students who were allowed to use their phones for academic purposes during class time had higher levels of engagement and comprehension (University of Nebraska-Lincoln, 2017). Furthermore, a report by Common Sense Media revealed that 42% of children age 8 and under have their own tablet device, indicating how integral technology has become in our children's lives (Common Sense Media, 2017).
Despite these facts and personal experiences, many schools in Indiana still maintain strict no-phone policies during focus periods. This petition seeks to change this outdated approach.
By signing this petition you are supporting the rights of students across Indiana to use their phones as tools for learning and concentration during focus periods. Let's help our kids be calm and focused in school by allowing them access to the devices they know best.
