Due to having to leave our backpacks in our lockers, in every exchange between classes, students at Cinnaminson Middle School are required to make a stop at their lockers. This policy not only proves inconvenient, it encroaches on the limited time between classes, leaving no chance for a much-needed breather. The cause is near and dear to me, as a student faced with this challenge of going back and forth to my locker every day irrespective of the distance between my classes or the weight of books I must carry. According to data from the National Education Association, shorter transition times can optimize student concentration, focus, and overall learning experience. By allowing students to carry their backpacks, schools can enhance the educational environment and streamline day-to-day logistics for the students. With more than 50 million students in the United States' public schools, the potential impact of positive changes to school policies is enormous. We ask the Cinnaminson, NJ school board to revisit and revise their policy to allow students to carry backpacks at school.
