On February 1st, Northern Valley Demarest Regional High School implemented a system on Genesis where students and parents are not able to check the Genesis Gradebook during the school hours of 8:00 am to 3:00 pm. 

This system was implemented after a school-wide survey (conducted early 2022-2023 school year) found that the majority of students were stressed about grades. 

Although this new implementation could be beneficial overtime, many students strongly believe that not being able to access grades during school hours causes more stress and anxiety than before. 

The new system is based off the logic that if students cannot access grades during school, they can focus better in class without constantly thinking about grades. However, it can also be argued that not being able to check grades as soon as they are posted causes anxiety throughout the entire school day. 

This petition proposes to make a compromise for this system. For example, allowing students to check grades during lunch time (10:50-11:46). This compromise would not only allow students to focus during class but would also minimize anxiety as students only need to wait a few class periods instead of the entire school day. This would also give students the opportunity to speak to their teacher about their grades on the same day that they are posted. 

This petition aims to not only create a compromise for the Northern Valley Districts but also for other schools in Bergen County, New Jersey.
