Allow sixth form students to decide for themselves whether a dress code is introduced at Penistone

Allow sixth form students to decide for themselves whether a dress code is introduced at Penistone
The Issue
The ability of sixth form students to participate in the governance of their own school is an important aspect of developing their citizenship skills. At Penistone Grammar School in South Yorkshire, the school's head teacher recently began a 'consultation' on whether sixth form students should dress according to a dress code decided by the school, or continue to dress as they wish while studying in the sixth form.
Steps were taken to allow student volunteers to speak on behalf of their fellow students. According to those present at the meeting, there was a show of hands in which 19 of the 20 student representatives expressed a view that no dress code should be introduced. The subsequent introduction of a 'business dress' code by the Head Teacher (announced to parents this week) shows extreme disrespect to the students. Parents were never consulted.
This petition is aimed at ensuring that the views of sixth form students determine the policy toward a dress code, and not a small group of teachers who wish to impose their views.
If you support the students in their desire to democratically decide on whether to change the dress code, or keep it as it is, then please support this petition. The letter written below will be sent to the Chair of Governors at the school and asks that the students organise their own vote regarding dress policy during sixth form using the following questions.
1. Are you in favour of introducing a dress code for sixth form students? (Yes / No / Unsure)
2. Should sixth form students have complete freedom to choose how they dress? (Yes / No / Unsure)
