The Issue

Every holiday season, I look forward to spreading the joy and spirit that the holidays bring. A big part of that for me and many others is wearing Santa hats. It's a small, simple gesture but packs a powerful punch of holiday spirit and brings smiles to the faces of students and staff alike. However, I'm disheartened to share that Arlington Public Schools have implemented a policy prohibiting the wearing of Santa hats during the holiday season.

This ban not only dampens the festive mood but also takes away the freedom to express our joy and celebration of the holidays. Many students, including myself, feel restricted and unable to share in the festive traditions due to this unnecessary rule. Santa hats are a symbol of celebration, inclusivity, and joy – something all educational institutes should advocate for rather than restrict.

Research and trends in many other school districts indicate that incorporating festive traditions like wearing Santa hats actually boosts morale and creates a sense of community among students and teachers. Schools in neighboring areas allow students to don their festive gear, including Santa hats, promoting unity and joyful connections during the holiday season.

By allowing Santa hats, Arlington Public Schools can create a more inclusive and joyous environment conducive to learning and building community spirit. It's time for the Arlington School District to reconsider this policy and bring back the cheer that students eagerly wish to spread.

Join me in signing this petition to urge the Arlington Public Schools' administration to allow students to wear Santa hats as a celebration of the holiday spirit. Let's bring back the joy and make our schools a brighter and happier place during the festive season. Please sign this petition and help make a positive change in our community.
